LA CROSSE TECHNOLOGY - What to do for Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time 2014 begins at 2:00 AM (local time) on Sunday, March 9
and ends at 2:00 AM on Sunday, November 2.

Please allow 3-5 nights for your Clock, Watch or Weather station to correctly change for the start of DST before contacting us. Often it is just an interference issue that will resolve on its own.

Our Radio Controlled clocks, watches and weather stations receive an embedded radio signal from the Atomic Clock in Ft. Collins, Colorado that tells the product to change to or from Daylight Saving Time. Radio signals are subject to atmospheric and others types of interference. The signal is best received at night.

The antenna in your clock, watch or weather station is directional. It is not unusual for it to take 3-5 nights for signal reception depending on location. Watch antennas are much smaller, so please allow extra time for them to change.

To improve signal reception:

  1. Have good plain alkaline batteries dated 7 years in advance or testing to at least 1.48 on a voltmeter with numbers. Batteries are the #1 warranty issue we see.

  2. At night, place the clock, watch or weather station on a wall or in a window with the Front or Back facing Ft Collins Colorado. This allows the widest portion of the antenna to be positioned to receive the signal.

  3. Be sure you have the correct Time Zone set on your device. All North American time zones are negative numbers. Many products use letters or letter and number combination for North American time zones. If your clock, watch or weather station is not set to a North American time zone, it may not change for DST.

  4. If your clock, watch or weather station has a DST OFF feature, please be sure to have it turned ON. (Default is ON).

  5. If your clock, or weather station has a RCC OFF or WWVB OFF feature, please be sure to have it turned ON.

You will find more specific information on you product in the owner’s manual and in the DST instructions section further down on this page.

Thank You!
Your Customer Support Team.

Enhanced WWVB Broadcast Format Change

Beginning Monday, October 29, 2012 at 1500 UTC (9:00 AM MDT), NIST Radio Station WWVB will begin broadcasting a phase modulation (PM) time code protocol. The new PM signal, which has been tested over the past several months, will provide significantly improved performance in new products that are designed to receive it. Existing radio-controlled clocks and watches will not be affected by the new broadcast protocol, and will continue to work as before.

Weather Direct

Weather Direct - DST (Daylight Saving Time)

Weather Direct forecast stations receive their time from the Internet, and will update for the change in DST automatically as the day progresses.

If your Weather Direct forecaster does not change for DST within 24 hours, please first check to make sure that the weather station and Gateway are connected to the internet and communicating with the Weather Direct servers. To verify this, log in to your account at www.weatherdirect.com and check the date and time of the Last Seen field for both the Gateway and the weather station.

If the Last Seen field of the Gateway is not a current Date/Time value:

  • Power cycle the Gateway:
    • Unplug your Gateway for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

When the Gateway is showing a solid red light, or if only the weather forecaster had an out of date Last Seen field:

  • Press and hold the PLUS button on the Display until it beeps (for all audio Weather Direct forecaster units, press and hold SNOOZE until it says UPDATING).
  • Wait 1 minute for the forecast to update (wait 15 minutes for Audio units to update).
