LA CROSSE TECHNOLOGY® Customer Support Site

Before contacting Customer support, here are the common troubleshooting steps:

Batteries are the #1 warranty issue we see. Please be sure you are using name brand plain alkaline batteries dated at least 7 years in advance or testing to 1.48 on a voltmeter that reads in numbers.

***Restart basic clocks and weather stations that do not have wind or rain:
In order to establish proper communication between the display and outdoor transmitter it is important that they be set up as follows:

  1. Bring both units inside and have the units 3-5 feet apart with nothing between them.
  2. Remove all power from both units.
  3. Press one of the buttons on the display at least 20 times to clear all memory. Verify that the display is blank before proceeding.
  4. Let the all units sit with batteries out for 10 minutes.
  5. Be sure to use a new, Brand Name Alkaline battery dated at least 7 years in advance (super, ultra, max, heavy duty and rechargeable types should be avoided). Place them back into the remote sensor; making sure they are installed according to the diagrams in the battery compartment.
Next, taking care not to press any buttons, reinstall the batteries in the display according to the diagram in the battery compartment.
  6. Do not press any buttons for at least 15 minutes after installing the batteries. (Let them establish a good connection.)
  7. The temperature should be showing on your display. You can now put your sensor back outside.

***Alarms:
Turning alarms off generally requires pressing the alarm button until the Alarm icon (( )) disappears. If all else fails, remove all power and press any button 20 times. Most of our units default to alarms being off.

***Time Zone:
Time “jumping hours”. This is generally a Time Zone issue. All North American Time Zones are negative numbers. –4 ATL, -5 EST, -6CST, -7MST, -8 PST, -9ALA, -10 HAW.

***WWVB signal:
It is not unusual to take as long as 3-5 days to pick up the WWVB signal depending on various factors including your location and atmospheric conditions.
For best signal reception, follow these steps:
Do you have a Tower Icon showing on your Clock or Weather Station? If not you are not currently in contact with the WWVB signal in Ft Collins CO.

Are you in the correct Time Zone? Please note that all US Time Zones are negative numbers. Ex: -4 Atlantic, -5 Eastern, -6 Central, -7 Mountain, -8 Pacific, -9 Alaskan, -10 Hawaiian.
Is your DST indicator ON or OFF (1 on, 0 off on some units). If this is OFF or 0 your clock or weather station will not change.
If your Clock or Weather Station has RCC in the SET UP menu, this must be ON to receive a signal from the atomic clock.

Do you have good Alkaline Batteries dated at least 7 years in advance? Without proper batteries, the antenna will have a harder time picking up the signal.

Put the Clock or Weather Station in a window (with the front or back) facing Ft. Collins, Colorado and leave overnight. If you do not have a window facing this direction, locate the Clock or Weather Station near an outside wall and point the unit in this general direction.

Check it in the morning. If the Clock or Weather Station shows the correct time, you have successfully connected to the atomic clock. If the time is still incorrect allow the device 3-4 more nights to set correctly. If after a total of 5 nights the time is still incorrect, please get back to me.

***Additional sensors:
Please visit your Retailer or Great Big Outlet, a company that purchased our overstocks and our non-warranty parts like wind cups, brackets, vanes, and extra transmitters. They are at www.greatbigoutlet.com you will be able to purchase your replacement sensor or part from them. All parts are warranted.

****Restart WS 2308, 2310, 2315, 2316, and 2317:
Please attempt the following Restart procedure:

  1. Remove batteries from the thermo-hygro (outdoor) sensor, then disconnect and reconnect the sensor cables. Please be sure they "click" into place.
  2. Wait at least 1 minute, and reinsert the batteries. Be sure to use a new, quality alkaline battery (heavy duty and rechargeable types should be avoided)
  3. Return to the base station and press and hold the PRESSURE and WIND buttons on the base station until you hear a beep (10-15 seconds). Do not press any other buttons for AT LEAST 30 minutes while the station completes its startup sequence.

***Restart WS 3610:
Please attempt the following restart procedure:

  1. Remove batteries from the thermo-hygro (outdoor) sensor, then disconnect and reconnect the sensor cables.
  2. Wait at least 1 minute, and reinsert the batteries. Be sure to use a new, quality alkaline battery (heavy duty and rechargeable types should be avoided)
  3. Return to the display and tap the bottom area of the LCD.  Select setup and choose next until Factory Reset is shown.  Select confirm and follow the prompts on the screen.  Note you will be asked to Remove Battery even if running on A/C power only. Please remove the power source (batteries or a/c) and reinstall.
Do not press any other buttons for AT LEAST 30 minutes while the station completes its startup sequence.

***Restart WS 1610-IT, 1611-It, 1612-IT, and 1613-IT:

  1. Remove batteries from the thermo-hygro (outdoor) sensor, and the base station. Let the stations sit without batteries for 15 minutes.
  2. Then disconnect and reconnect the sensor cables (be sure they click into place). Reinsert the batteries. Be sure to use a new, quality alkaline battery (heavy duty and rechargeable types should be avoided)
  3. Return to the base station, with the batteries out, and press any button 20 times. Verify that the display is completely blank before proceeding.
  4. Reinstall batteries in the display and do not press any other buttons for AT LEAST 30 minutes while the station completes its startup sequence.

***Restart WS 1510-IT and 1515-IT:

  1. Remove batteries from the Thermo-hygro (outdoor) sensor, Rain sensor and the Base station (s).
Let the stations sit without batteries for 15 minutes.
  2. Then disconnect and reconnect the Wind sensor cable (be sure it clicks into place). Reinsert the batteries into the Thermo-hygro sensor and Rain sensor first.
  5. Please note you may see Wind and Temperature/humidity, but you will generally not see Rain until you tip the rocker 30 minutes after start up. This is because the station will first find the Thermohygro sensor and spend 15 minutes locking in this code. Then is will actively search for the Rain gauge for 15 minutes to lock in its code.

You are important to us. We will respond to your e-mail. It is helpful to have complete information such as: Name, Address, Daytime Phone, Model (starts with WT or WS followed by the model number), Frequency (433MHz or 915MHZ) Date of Purchase/gift, and detailed description of the problem. If you have a professional station with Wind and Rain, pictures of the mounting are very helpful.
